Skills gaps, meeting international partners, and funding of creative businesses in Africa and Trinidad & Tobago

Late last year, Visiting Arts along with the Africa Center and the Ministry of Arts and Multiculturalism for Trinidad and Tobago conducted a survey of the regions where we are working for our project Culture Works Connections. Below we have a shared a summary of key results from respondents across sub-saharan Africa and Trinidad and Tobago.

The latest in a series of innovative residencies sees Iranian photographer Gohar Dashti head to Bradford in the north of England for four weeks from late January 2011. Part of Visiting Arts’ 1mile² (www.square-mile.net) programme, her residency is supported by City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council and DCMS. While in residence at Impressions Gallery, Dashti will collaborate with ecologist Charlie Gray and lead a photographic mapping project with Bradford’s local community.

Excellent Feedback for VA’s role as UK Cultural Contact Point

Visiting Arts received positive reviews from the European Commission Executive Agency for Education, Audiovisual and Culture for our role as the official UK Cultural Contact Point from 2010 to 2013, advising UK organisations on the EU Culture programme and Creative Europe.

Culture Works Connections

Culture Works Connections is a project linking the creative businesses in Africa, Caribbean and Pacific funded by the ACP Cultures+ ACP-EU Support Programme to ACP Cultural Sectors, financed by the European Union and implemented by the ACP Group of States. It runs for three years from 2014- 2017. There are four parts to the programme which, at its heart, aims to build stronger more sustainable creative businesses that are able to access world markets and develop collaborations.

World Cultures Connect

World Cultures Connect is a new generation global cultural information site. It connects artists and cultural organizations across the globe. It allows them to promote their work, make new connections with other artists, identify opportunities for work and discover new partners, new markets and new audiences. It also gives the public a comprehensive insight into the cultural offer of countries and how to engage with arts and culture worldwide.
