CASE STUDIES Amir Nizar Hamoda Zuabi (Palestine)
Visiting Arts supported a year-long residency for young Palestinian director Amir Nizar Hamoda Zuabi, which took place during 2003/04, primarily at the Young Vic in London, with two weeks at Cove Park in Scotland. At Cove Park, Nizar worked on a two-week project with fellow Palestinian artist Kalif Nator. The Young Vic first became aware of Nizar's talent when he directed the Al-Kasaba Theatre Company's Stories Under Occupation, which had previously been presented at the Young Vic. As part of the Young Vic's Directors' Programme, Nizar had the opportunity to work alongside Associate Director Rufus Norris on Peribanez. Other projects during the year included workshops in Lambeth and Southwark secondary schools, development time with actors, leading workshops for other directors on the programme, and directing his own work for the Studio at the Young Vic.
