Contacting the World - Street Carnival took place on 23 July 2006 in Manchester. Throughout the week leading up to the event, artists Kinetika (London), Arts in Action (Trinidad), Meninos do Morumbi (Brazil) and Barracudas (Barrow, UK) ran a series of workshops with a group of 30-40 young people from Manchester, Liverpool, London and Belgium.

The participants in the project were introduced to different elements of Brazilian dance and music, Trinidadian carnival traditions, and a variety of other styles of performances.

Through the inspiration of these workshops a new performance piece was created especially for the street event, including music, dance and theatrical performance.

The culmination of the project was the street parade through Manchester City Centre which also involved 150 young people from all over the world who were participating in Contacting the World, 30 professional development practitioners from both the UK and overseas, as well as staged performances from theatre companies from South Africa, London, Scotland, New Zealand Rwanda, The Philippines and Manchester. The event was enjoyed by more than 2000 people.
