Arts Council England set to assess visa applications from foreign artists entering the UK

Information related to Visas and Sponsorship on our website is out of date – last updated in 2012. Regrettably, Visiting Arts does not have a staff member working in this area currently and we are not available for advice related to visas. A new scheme will see the Arts Council assessing applications from artists applying for a visa to enter this country on the basis of their exceptional talent.

Following its established work with the UK Border Agency (UKBA) via the Arts and Entertainment Taskforce which considers issues around artists’ entry into the UK, the Arts Council is set to become as a Designated Competent Body working with the UKBA to implement the Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) category of the points-based visa system.

The scheme will allow an individual to apply for entry to the UK if they are internationally recognised as world leaders in the arts or sciences. The Arts Council will determine whether applicants from the arts and entertainment sector qualify as ‘exceptionally talented’. Exceptionally talented artists who live in the non-EU world and who wish to live/work in the UK for 2-4 years are being informed that Arts Council England can consider accepting up to 300 artists for long term stay.

The Arts Council guidelines and UK Border Agency (UKBA) criteria can be found here and here. Read the ACE press release here.
