Curatorial exchange programme 2011: Alisa Savitskaya

Visiting Arts was delighted to support the placement of Alisa Savitskaya a senior research curator from the National Centre for Contemporary Arts (NCCA), in Russia. The program, initiated by British Council, Russia aims to support young curators from the EUNIC countries.

The ambition of the exchange is to deepen the dialogue that the UK has with Russia and also to make valuable connections for potential show and creative exchange during 2012.
During the week in October Alisa participated in events at Frieze art fair, visited London galleries and had meeting with key organisations across the city. Her time in the UK ended with a 3 week lone curatorial residency at Turner Contemporary, Margate. Key meetings included Tate, London, INIVA and Calvert 22 Gallery.

The National Centre for Contemporary Art (NCCA) is a museum, exhibition and research centre which focuses on the development of contemporary Russian art within the context of the global art process, The activity of the Centre works closely with artists and independent experts in the field of contemporary art, culture and various organisations such as museums, research institutions and public organisations, both in Russia and abroad.

The activities of the National Centre of Contemporary Art include
- Prioritising the support of contemporary Russian art
- Curatorial Development focussing on audiovisual projects, installations and performances
- Ongoing development of educational activities – lectures, seminars and master classes
- Placement of the collection with an international context
At present NCCA is a network institution with its branches in major cultural centres of Russia such as St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg and Kaliningrad.
Alisa Savitskaya – a Senior Researcher and a Curator at the Volga region branch of the National Centre for Contemporary Arts www.ncca.ru since 2009. Co-founder of the annual public award "Caryatid" to support the best women’s initiatives in the field of contemporary art in Russia.

• 2009-2010: ‘Three string quartets for one video’, EK-project, Nizhny Novgorod, Grand prix of Sergey Kuryokhin Award for contemporary arts
