On the morning of December 13th, 2016, Visiting Arts hosted a discussion to explore the international agenda for culture in the UK post-Brexit in Open Space format at Europe House, the European Parliament Office in the UK. Visiting Arts is partnering on a new three-year research project led by The Open University which will challenge the terms of public debates about energy issues. “Stories of Change: Exploring energy and community in the past, present and future” has received nearly £1.5million in funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council to examine areas of conflict and make space for more diverse voices. The project will explore energy choices through an innovative mix of social science and humanities research, digital storytelling, short films, and other creative work; and will be generating a publicly-accessible collection of stories.

Since the Arts Council England’s decision to cut Visiting Arts from its portfolio, we have had a very great number of letters of support. In particular, from artists and arts organisations who have told us how much the work we do has benefitted them, their practice and their audiences. It is clear that the role of international artists in articulating the contemporary condition is more important now than ever and the Visiting Arts way of identifying those artists, linking them with UK artists, finding a platform for their work and creating conditions for the public to benefit from their experiences and perspectives is valued, valuable and current.

On Wednesday 30 March, 1mile² Guelph was officially launched at Guelph Youth Music Centre. The event featured a lecture by artist Mary Mattingly as part of the Big Ideas on Art and Culture series and a multimedia performance by Bob Wiseman.
This innovative eight-month project will involve local and international artists exploring how we live, work and act together. Working collaboratively with local ecologists, architects, activists, community leaders, students and residents, the project will run until November 2011. The artists will engage Guelph's many communities through installations, conversations, workshops and public interventions about the city, its urban development, cultural legacy and sustainable future.

Plans are going ahead for a new chapter of Contemporary Myths to take place next spring in Turkey.
Contemporary Myths is an intercultural and international collaboration project bringing together theatre makers from different countries to share practice, explore ideas and gain a deeper understanding of artistic contexts. Visiting Arts, West Dean College (West Sussex) worked together in inviting two poets who write in Arabic, to take part in a one week residency in the Sussex Downs for the first week of November 2010.
Nujoom al-Ghanem is an Emirati writer who combines popular writing with challenging contemporary verse. Fadhil al-Azzawi originally from Iraq, now based in Berlin, has developed an extraordinary international reputation for his perceptive and entertaining verse and performance.Nujoom and Fadhil participated in Poetry International at the South Bank Centre, London from Saturday 30 Oct to Sunday 7 Nov, where they discussed their practice as poets and they time at West Dean.

On June 8, 15 cultural attachés joined Visiting Arts and the European Commission Representation in the UK at a visit to the ITN news studios.

On 19 April 2010 Visiting Arts held a sharing session, hosted by Soho Theatre, about the experiences of UK directors and producers who travelled to Iran with Visiting Arts in January 2010. The event was attended by a group of over 30 UK producers, directors and cultural practitioners.

Visiting Arts led a delegation of nine practitioners on an inspiring week-long visit to Cape Town in February, 2010.
The first three days of the trip were a whirlwind tour of performances around the centre of the city, taking us to churches, monuments, shopping malls, street corners, gardens and public squares. The second day ended with Bill Gee, Andrew Mitchelson, and Bradley Hemmings on the couch with Brett Bailey for a critical discussion about festival curation, commissioning new performance in light of Infecting the City’s New Collaborative Works model.

The International Exchange Placement pilot programme, with support from the Cultural Leadership Programme (CLP) was run throughout 2009. It provided UK organisations with a three-month international exchange, followed by a three-month hosting period, with a focus on intercultural understanding, international leadership competencies and the art of intercultural hosting.
