ARTS COUNCIL ENGLAND (ACE)
ACE is the national development agency for the arts in England, distributing public money from Government and the National Lottery.

Grants for the Arts is the main scheme available for individuals and arts organisations and other people who use arts in their work. It is for arts-related activities that benefit people in England or that help artists and arts organisations in England carry out their work. The project must take place mainly in England. They can only accept applications from individuals or organisations based/living in the European Union, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.

In 2005 ACE announced their International Policy. If you are intending to apply for an international project, it is best to contact them in the first instance to find out more about projects that could be supported under this scheme.

SCOTTISH ARTS COUNCIL (SAC)
The Scottish Arts Council is the principal channel of public funding for the arts in Scotland. They receive most of their funding from the Scottish Executive which they are  independent from but accountable to. SAC also distribute funds from the National Lottery to the arts in Scotland.

The main aim of lottery funding is to support arts projects which make an important and lasting difference to the quality of life for the general public.

SAC work at an international, national and local level and aim to: increase participation in the arts; support artists in Scotland to fulfil their creative and business potential; and place the arts, culture and creativity at the heart of learning. Their guide for support for 2007/08 is available online.

ARTS COUNCIL OF WALES (ACW)
ACW supports all aspects of the arts in Wales and has revised its funding schemes, and the most up-to-date versions are available from their website. The schemes are opportunities for arts organisations and individuals in Wales to apply, through a competitive application process, for funding towards a clearly defined arts-related project.

WALES ARTS INTERNATIONAL (WAI)
WAI is a partnership between the Arts Council of Wales and British Council. It works to promote knowledge about contemporary culture from Wales and encourage international exchange and collaboration.

WAI run the International Opportunities Fund. Its main purpose is to encourage professional arts practitioners both to explore potential partnerships with a view to future collaborations, and to deliver collaborative projects, with practitioners, producers, presenters or promoters in countries outside the UK. It is open to professional arts organisations based in Wales and to professional artists who live in Wales.

Applications may be submitted to the Fund for support towards:

  • research for international projects that will take place either in Wales or outside the UK
  • international projects taking place outside the UK that either involve individual artists who live in Wales, or professional arts organisations based in Wales.

Awards under the International Opportunities Fund are prioritised towards collaborative projects.

ARTS COUNCIL OF NORTHERN IRELAND (ACNI)

They have a wide range of funding programmes which can be tailored to international work, though there is no main ‘international’ grant. They run the Info Desk initiative online which is a database of constantly-updated international arts contacts and opportunities which was updated in 2007
