A sharing event was programmed at Stills, Edinburgh, Scotland on 5 May this followed on from Bamako Encounters Reflections on the 8th African Photography Biennial event held at Rivington Place, London, in February of this year. This provided the opportunity to focus on the experience of two Scottish curators, Claudia Zeiske – Director of Deveron Arts in Huntly and Dr Sarah Worden - Curator of African Collections at the National Museums in Edinburgh. Both had participated in the Visiting Arts curators’ visit to Mali in November 2009.
The evening’s presentations gave individual perceptions on the work seen there and demonstrated the legacy of the trip in terms of future programmes, highlighting the potential UK collaborative initiatives that can be prompted by a group visit. It was also interesting to note the ways in which the dialogue between ‘museology’ with specialist subject knowledge on collections can also inform the broader experience of contemporary visual art, and vice versa.

August saw a visit to Scotland by 15 Cultural Diplomats, organised by Visiting Arts in partnership with the Scottish Arts Council, with additional support from British Council and DCMS.
The three-day visit, coincided with the Edinburgh festivals and gave the diplomats the opportunity to make contact with representatives of the main Edinburgh festivals and other key institutions in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
