A dynamic mix of Korea’s most compelling contemporary dance and theatre at the 2007 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. From hip hop to ballet, through traditional drumming to mime, the Korea@Fringe showcase presents a rich collection of contemporary Korean performance. Offering traditional Korean arts, modern musicals, ballet, physical and visual theatre, this collection reflects today’s Korea, on stage and beyond.
Korea@Fringe showcase presentations:

Binari - Vitalizing the Spirit by Dulsori
Old College Quad 7pm, 3 - 27 August
The unearthly power and vibrant rhythms of traditional Korean drumming will lure audiences to this outdoor spectacle, a feast of dynamic percussion, energetic singing and the rituals of the ancient arts. Dulsori will use P'ungmul, a form of communal play that incorporates percussion with five major instruments, dance and drama to create a vital experience for performers and audience alike.
Break Out by SevenSense & YEGAM Theatre Company
Assembly Hall 5pm, 3 - 25 August
The new show from the makers of JUMP, the sell-out hit of the 2005-2006 Edinburgh Fringe! The hottest B-Boy dance moves mix with gymnastic feats and hilarious visual comedy. Featuring a cast of top-quality performers including some of Korea’s leading B-Boy dancers, Break Out promises great entertainment and plenty of energy.

Somewhere Else by Company SEO (part of the quadruple bill GLOBAL)
Dance Base, various times, 8 - 18 August
Korean choreographer Misook Seo creates a unique visual poetry with the bodies of her two dancers in this contemplative and enthralling duet that explores the notion of space-time. Seo’s Fluid was a highlight of the 2006 ‘Avignon Festival Off’. Somewhere Else is part of Global, a quadruple bill of international dance premieres that also includes Stephen Pelton Dance Theater A Hundred Miles (USA), Priya Shrikumar Devi (Scotland) and Kitt Johnson’s Rankefod (Denmark).
Spin Odyssey by Soulgang-Bricklane
C venue, 4.30pm, 1 - 27 August
Fusing spectacular street dance and side-splitting comedy Spin Odyssey features the internationally renowned Korean b-boy team Last For One. Loosely based on the epic Greek poem The Odyssey this production is a hilarious mix of dazzling b-boying and Buster Keaton-esque slapstick comedy. A rip-roaring show jam-packed with laughs!
The Voice of Things - Toilet Paper by Hayan Theatre
Underbelly, 1.10pm, 2 - 26 August
Critically acclaimed international theatre company, Hayan Theatre, bring their most expressive piece of work to this year’s festival, presenting physical and object theatre at its most sensuous. Transforming the mundane into the magical, The Voice of Things - Toilet Paper takes us to a world of unexpected beauty. From minimalist interpretations to large scale manifestations, this evocative show will re-ignite your imagination and open your eyes to the enlightening potential of the least expected of everyday items.

Woyzeck by Sadari Movement Laboratry
Aurora Nova 10.30am, 2 - 27 August
Sadari Movement Laboratory creates a haunting physical and visual language to depict George Buchner’s play about a young soldier driven mad by inhuman military discipline and social deprivation. Within a sparse design performers build and reshape the dramatic space using their bodies and a set of wooden chairs with endless invention. Carried by the passionate rhythms of tango music this moving architecture morphs through emotional revelations and hopeless realisations in this unnerving and beautiful production.
