Vital Bodies International Conference
22/23 November 2007, Liverpool John Moores University

Vital Bodies is a two-day international conference, organised in conjunction with the Vital 07 festival. 

VITAL 07 continues the major programme of Live Art events by Chinese Arts Centre. Vital Bodies will consider both historical and aesthetic representations of 'the body' in visual art practices by artists of Chinese descent, bringing into dialogue a broad range of participants including artists, theorists, curators, policy-makers and arts educators.

Speakers include: Becky Ip (Hong Kong), Patricia Karetzky (USA), Thomas Berghuis (Australia), Yang Zhichao (China), Lee Wen (Singapore), Diana Yeh (UK), Lesley Sanderson (UK), Yeung Yang (Hong Kong), Dr Tsai Kun-Lin (UK) Dr Tsen Wang (Taiwan), Nuria Querol (Spain), Ming-Yuen (USA), Zhou Bin (China), Nicole Wong (USA) 

Vital Bodies will consider a number of issues within current art practices and strategies, these will include:

  • Artistic and curatorial strategies in the field of Live Art
  • Considering audience in the presentation of Live Art
  • Communicating meaning through documentation of Live Art practice
  • Interventions in public space and site responsive work

Conference papers and transcripts from discussions will be brought together with writing and documentation from the festival programme, and will be reproduced in a publication due out in Spring 2008.
