2nd London International Documentary Festival

2008 sees the 2nd edition of the London International Documentary Festival (LIDF). From humble beginnings in 2007 to this year’s expansive programme with over 50 films in 8 venues, over 8 days, Q&As with directors, panel discussions and conversations, the LIDF goes beyond the films themselves to create new critical spaces within which audiences and filmmakers, in conversation, can engage with the social, cultural and political content of the films.

The full programme of events is available on www.lidf.co.uk

As well as the screenings, other highlights include:

A Conversation in Europe at the Barbican Centre
This European-focused strand of the London International Documentary Festival features six Documentaries, Q&A’s with directors, panel discussions and audience participation that explores the wide-ranging themes offered by these films. Supported by the European Parliament A Conversation in Europe is an initiative in support of the EU Year of Inter-Cultural Dialogue.

Panel Conversations
The panel ‘conversations’ were a particular success of the LIDF 2007. This year, in association with London Review of Books, the panels will focus on developing critical responses to the documentaries, engaging with themes and questions found therein, and extending audience participation. Panelists will be chosen according to the particular insight they can bring to the films. Contributions are expected from the UK and Europe; intellectuals, filmmakers, journalists, politicians and representatives from charities, NGO’s and think-tanks of all descriptions.

The London International Documentary Festival is the brainchild of Patrick Hazard and Jessie Teggin. The LIDF arises from a commitment to what it calls ‘Conversations in Film’. These conversations bring together diverse audiences and go beyond the films themselves in order to engage with social, cultural and political issues in the company of relevant experts and the filmmakers themselves.

LIDF is supported by The British Museum, Curzon Cinemas and The Barbican.
