China In-Country Workshops
In March 2008 Visiting Arts delivered three in-country workshops which were all done in partnership with British Council China and led by Roger McCann.
The topic of the first workshop was Artistic Development, and the teaching team was David Jubb, Artistic Director at BAC, Karena Johnson, an independent artist and producer, and Julie Ellen, Creative Director at the Playwright’s Studio Scotland. The second workshop’s topic was Venue Management and the teaching team was Ruth Eastwood, Chief Executive of the Leicester Theatre Trust, Jane Spiers, Chief Executive of the Perth Theatre and Concert Hall and Peter Wilson, Chief Executive of the Norwich Theatre Royal. Initial feedback from both these workshops has been positive, with enthusiastic and energetic participation by the Chinese participants.
The third workshop took place in Guangzhou and was delivered in partnership with the Guangdong Museum of Art. This workshop was for museum curators and focused on interpretation and outreach. The teaching team for this workshop was Jim Broughton, Head of Interpretation at the British Museum, John Reeve, Chair of the Group for Education in Museums, and an experienced university teacher, museum educator and trainer, author and consultant, and Steph Mastoris Head of the National Waterfront Museum, Swansea, one of seven sites operated by Amgueddfa Cymru-National Museum Wales.
