April 2008

Visiting Arts Curators’ Breakfast at Gi

Visiting Arts was pleased to host a Curators' Breakfast at the Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA) on the 11 April 2008 as part of the launch weekend for the Glasgow International (Gi) visual arts festival.

Nelson Fernandez, Director of Cultural Operations, gave a short introduction to the work of Visiting Arts; this was followed by a short talk by Susanna Beaumont, Director of Doggerfisher, Edinburgh, a contemporary art gallery working with established and new generation artists from Scotland and abroad. Susanna spoke about Doggerfisher and Scottish contemporary visual arts within a commercial context.

In addition, Neil Mulholland, Writer, gave a visual presentation which looked back at the various influences on art practice in Glasgow and Edinburgh over the last fifty years and Francis Mckee, Director of GI concluded the session, bringing us to the present day with GI 2008. Francis reflected on the festival’s development, describing the artistic themes of this year’s programme and Glasgow’s changing and thriving cultural landscape.

The Breakfast provided a valuable opportunity for the launch events and the vibrant festival programme, emphasising the importance of developing international contacts and helping foster a strong profile for Gi across the world.
