Climate Change – Gauging the Temperature

This was a two-day conference chaired by Peter Gingold, Executive Director of Tipping Point, which provided an opportunity for the coming together of scientific and artistic responses to the challenge of climate change.
 
Speakers included Mike Bruford, Professor of Biodiversity, Cardiff University, David Buckland, Director of Cape Farewell project, George Marshall, Founder and Director of Projects, Climate Outreach and Information Network and Stephen Powell, Director of the Gaia Coach Institute and Commissioning Editor of the Schumacher Briefings.
 
Artes Mundi shortlisted artists participated in panel discussions along with the selectors of the prize, Isabel Carlos and Bisi Silva, with artistic presentations by exhibiting artists Abdoulaye Konaté, Susan Norrie and Dalziel and Scullion that addressed the conference themes.
 
Also forming part of the conference timetable was an evening public lecture, given by the artist Xu Bing, who was recipient of the first Artes Mundi Prize in 2004.
 
Climate Change – Gauging the Temperature was presented by Artes Mundi and the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff, 23/24April 2008, at UWIC, Llandaff Campus. As part of the Wales International Visual Art Prize and Exhibition, Artes Mundi 3. The conference was supported by Visiting Arts
