In-Country Workshops

China, India and Iran

China

Visual Arts Management Workshop in China
With the support of British Council China and the Central Academy of Fine Arts Beijing, this 5-day workshop in March 2007 was led by Roger McCann (independent trainer and Theatre Officer with ACE SE) with support from David Thorp (independent curator), Fiona Bradley (Director Fruitmarket Gallery Edinburgh) and Stephen Foster (Director, John Hansard Gallery Southampton).  The workshop was very well received and attended by 25 individuals.

Visiting Arts - British Council Arts Management Workshop in China
In March 2005, together with British Council China, we ran the first of a series of Arts Management Professional Development Workshops. The five-day intensive workshop (conducted in English) focussed on the role of the manager in both the visual and performing arts. The trainers and the participants all stayed at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, where the workshops were held. The sessions were attended by over 35 participants.

India

Dance Management Workshop in India (2004)
This workshop brought together some of the best dance managers and festival directors in the UK in order to build capacity for Indian dance professionals both nationally and internationally, as well as creating a network of national and international dance professionals.  Developed in partnership with British Council India, Arts Council England and the Attakalari Centre in Bangalore.

The India-UK Workshops on Cultural Festivals and Cultural Tourism
These workshops were run in Udaipur (2000) and Kolkota (2001) in partnership with British Council India, with additional support from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation. Over 60 participants took part with the aim of supporting and encouraging the development of cultural festivals in India as vehicles for social cohesion and harmony in a society characterised by religious, ethnic and social diversity.

Iran

2nd Iranian Theatre Capacity Building Workshop 2007
This workshop was delivered with the support of British Council Iran and the Dramatic Arts Center Tehran.  The 5-day workshop was led by Roger McCann (independent trainer and Theatre Officer with ACE SE) with support from Rose Fenton (independent arts producer, previously Director at LIFT), Kerry Michael (Artistic Director Theatre Royal Stratford East) and Mehrdad Seyf (Artistic Director, 30 bird productions).  The second workshop was also very well received and attended by 27 individuals.

1st Iranian Theatre Capacity Building Workshop 2007
This work was undertaken with the support of British Council and the Dramatic Arts Center Tehran.  The 5-day workshop was led by Roger McCann (independent trainer and Theatre Officer with ACE SE) with support from Nelson Fernandez (Visiting Arts), Rose Fenton (independent Arts Producer, previously Director at LIFT), Stella Hall (Creative Director Newcastle Gateshead Initiative) and Gregory Thompson of the Tron Theatre Glasgow. 27 Iranian practitioners attended the workshop and the feedback so far has been very positive.
