These opportunities involve UK based arts professionals and practitioners travelling overseas to work with their counterparts in a new context. The capacity building workshops are developed with our overseas partners and respond to the needs of the sector. These workshops, based upon peer-to-peer skills exchange develop mutual knowledge and understanding, lay the foundations for future artistic collaboration.
Past skills exchange workshops have included capacity building workshops in theatre management for theatre directors in the context of the Fadjr International Theatre Festival Tehran in 2007, 2009 and 2010; and capacity building for museum arts managers and additionally arts venue managers in China in 2007.
Our most recent practice-based exchange, Contemporary Myths, gave UK and Iranian theatre directors the opportunity to share practice and begin working creatively around the theme of adapting myth for contemporary performance. The first workshop took place in the context of the Edinburgh Festivals, August 2009, and a reciprocal workshop took place in Tehran in January 2010.
